片基的一面是紫外光感光层，另一面是白色层。感光层根据其接收的紫外光量改变颜色，通过观察感光层，可以轻松地了解曝光表面上的光量分布。白色层附着在片基上，白色层的色密度对应于接收的紫外线光量，因此可以方便地研究光接收表面上的光量分布。

微胶囊中的显色材料会与紫外光反应，从而改变颜色。
